Name: Spooks

Breed: Earth Pony

Special Talent: Necromancy

Bio: Spooks grew up in a village of forest-dwelling ponies near a small merchant town. Her mother was well renowned for her medicinal potions and frequently sold them at a nearby market. Spooks spent much of her time as a young filly gathering various deep-forest fauna for her mother’s brew, and though she was often fearful of what may have lurked in the underbrush, she generally found these outings quite enjoyable. Spooks found herself in awe of her mother’s seemingly magic abilities to cure ailing ponies even though she did not possess a horn and dreamed of someday following in her footsteps.

It is rumored that several ponies in Spook's village could communicate with the dead through various practices in order to predict future events, though such practices were kept low key for obvious reasons. Spooks' fascination with non-unicorn magic gave her a natural curiosity for these occult methods of fortune telling, and she collected books about them in secret.

One dreary afternoon, Spooks returned from an outing to find that her village had been ambushed and set ablaze by an unknown enemy. As the fire quickly spread, Spooks desperately attempted to find her family. Lightheaded and dizzy from inhaling smoke, she quickly gave up her search and fled. (She later returned to the wreckage to gather what remained of her village; several bones and a mare’s skull. She carries these items with her as spiritual protection, as well as a grim reminder of what happened that day).

Following the tragic event, Spooks gathered her books (which were luckily kept hidden in a small cave just outside the village where the fire couldn't spread) and set out on a quest to piece together exactly what happened to her tribe, as well as find the pony responsible. With so much free time on her hooves, Spooks was finally able to skim the pages of the volumes she'd salvaged. It was not long before she discovered that there was indeed a way to communicate with the dead, a practice known as necromancy, and though she was terrified of the paranormal, Spooks' desire to contact her family once again prevailed over her fears.

Ironically, Spooks managed to summon multiple entities on her first attempt, and seems to have a natural talent for it. The ghosts even took a liking to her and often linger around long after she has initially called for them. Though she is still a beginner and has not yet successfully conversed with the spirits, they seem to understand her situation and want to help her on her quest.

Side notes:

-Spooks' markings are not part of her coat, but painted on. The design varies from day to day but is always present. They usually resemble a skeletal structure, although they are highly inaccurate.
-There is one spirit in particular who almost never leaves Spooks' side. It is currently unknown who this spirit is, but it seems to be benevolent in nature.
-As implied by her name, Spooks is TERRIFIED of many things, including spiders, darkness, the paranormal, etc. It has taken her a long time to become comfortable around the entities she summons, and even now, she tends to be tense in their presence.
-Spooks now lives in solitude deep within the same forest she grew up in. She lives in a hut she crafted herself.
-Besides necromancy, Spooks has also begun to study potion making. This is likely not only for health benefits, but to remember her calm fillyhood.
-Despite her past, she is a generally upbeat pony with a warm personality.
